When visionary architect László Tóth and his wife Erzsébet flee post-war Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern America, their lives are forever changed by a mysterious, wealthy client. Filming lasted a total of 34 days. Shot in Budapest, Hungary and in Carrara, Italy. As if Vincent Van Gogh created this absolute masterpiece
Brutalist: The Brutalist is a painting that comes to life on screen. From the subtle, yet extremely effective and powerful sound design and score. Not to mention the stunning cinematography, every frame comes to life before your eyes. I can’t praise Brady Corbet and his vision enough. Being an original screenplay, it really proves how the film industry should be run.
Such a deep and powerful story
“Brutalist” is a down to earth story that took me emotionally to places I didn’t want to go. I’m glad this film is 3 hours and 35 minutes long because it has the right to take its time telling the story. And that’s three and a half hours of pure cinematic experience. I sat there and was in awe at every scene. That’s how you make a film.
On to the acting
Adrien Brody gives an acting masterclass. He can pull off everything, the crying and screaming scenes, the tender moments and gestures, his look. It’s so massive in a film that I don’t think I’ve seen a performance of this level in a long time. Guy Pearce is absolutely mesmerizing, downright terrifying at times. Felicity Jones comes into the story later than I would have imagined, but she absolutely holds her own, she’s a real beauty.
Brady Corbet is a visionary genius, and I look forward to seeing many more of his projects
